Intech achieves SBTi approval for 1.5°C-aligned emissions reduction goals

At Intech, we recognize sustainability as essential to healthcare, aligning with our mission to foster a healthier world through innovative medical devices. Today, we are proud to announce a major milestone in our journey towards environmental responsibility: our greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This approval highlights our ongoing commitment to aligning with the most ambitious climate action pathways, ensuring that our operations contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement.

Setting the bar high: 1.5°C target ambition

After a thorough review, the SBTi has classified Intech’s scope 1 and 2 target ambition as being aligned with a 1.5°C trajectory. Our approved science-based targets demonstrate our commitment to driving decarbonization within our operations and supply chain, as well as our responsibility to contribute to global efforts to mitigate climate change.

As part of our decarbonization strategy, we will focus on reducing our direct emissions (scope 1) and indirect emissions from purchased energy (scope 2) through initiatives like improving energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy, and engaging with our suppliers to adopt sustainable practices. Our focus is not just on meeting these targets but also on exceeding them as we continue to evolve as a sustainability-driven organization.

Leading the change in healthcare technology

As a global leader in contract-manufacturing, Intech recognizes the intrinsic link between planetary health and human health. By setting these ambitious science-based targets, we are not only safeguarding the environment but also ensuring that our innovations in healthcare technology continue to thrive in a world that is more resilient to climate change.

“Intech’s approval from the SBTi is a key milestone in our sustainability journey. We are committed to operating responsibly and reducing our carbon footprint as we work towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral in the near future,” said Laurent Pruvost. “Our efforts in setting these targets represent a larger vision of creating a sustainable future for the healthcare industry and the planet.”

A collaborative effort towards decarbonization

The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). It drives ambitious climate action by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets grounded in the latest climate science. By joining this global initiative, Intech has committed to cutting emissions in line with the latest climate science and to supporting global efforts to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C.

Our journey does not stop here. With our science-based targets now validated, we will focus on implementing them across all our operations. As we move forward, we are committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement—ensuring that our actions contribute to a more sustainable, healthier world.

Looking ahead

Intech’s approval from the SBTi is just one part of our broader strategy to address climate change and reduce environmental impacts. Moving forward, we will continue to explore innovative solutions to further minimize our carbon footprint and promote sustainability in all aspects of our business.

Our commitment to environmental responsibility, supported by our recent achievements with both the SBTi and EcoVadis, where we saw a significant improvement in our sustainability score from 44/100 in 2022 to 59/100 in the latest rating, highlights our dedication to continuous enhancement. This progress not only places us among the top 35% of over 73,000 companies assessed globally but also reflects our determination to lead in sustainability within the healthcare technology space.
