A new race across the oceans

Axel Tréhin and his Class 40 enter the Normandy Channel Race

After a fine fourth place in the Atlantic Challenge in April, Axel Tréhin is back aboard his Class 40 Project Rescue Ocean, powered by Intech, to conquer the English Channel in the Normandie Channel Race.

He left on Sunday afternoon, June 4, and returned at dawn on Friday, June 9, at 7:37 am, after 4 days 16 hours 22 minutes and 20 seconds of sailing. With his partner, Vendée Globe skipper Nicolas Troussel, they were able to brush up against the magnificent coasts of our English-speaking neighbors, as after rounding the Isle of Wolf and skirting the English coast, they were lucky enough to approach the Welsh side, before reaching the beautiful Irish coast before returning to Caen.

Unfortunately, we couldn't stop off at the pub, but morale on the boat remained high! It's clear that a good mood is enhanced tenfold when you're in good company, even if the chocolate reserves were dwindling fast. Our two skippers seem just as talented as they are greedy...

The skipper's position fluctuated throughout the race, starting in 16th place, then rising and alternating between 3rd and 4th, until he reached the lead position for a while, overtaking the Italian Alla Grande Pirelli, the race winner, who managed to keep his place for most of the time. Axel finally arrived in Caen in fourth place on Friday, June 9, repeating his 2022 run where he finished in the same position.

This was another exceptional adventure for Axel, in a race that was as meaningful for him as it was for us, since the Normandie Channel Race 2021 symbolizes the very first race for our marvellous boat, a race which he actually won.

Now it's time for a rest and a reunion, before sailing off to new horizons!
